Churches of Dartmouth
It was many of the churches in Dartmouth that came together originally to ask us to be here. Below are brief descriptions of the churches of Dartmouth, the churches that currently support us are marked with an asterisk(*).
*Dartmouth Baptist Church has about 33 members and 15-20 children in the Sunday School programme. This number has come down considerably in the past couple years. This is the only church with a structured Sunday School programme. Over the years, Mitch and Vicki have taught all the various age groups, either in All-Age Sunday School or in the individual age groups. At the moment, Mitch teaches the 8-10's on a regular basis. Vicki has held the position of Sunday School Coordinator. The Sunday School is currently lead by Julie Boueiri. Three teaching teams take it in turns to have a Sunday each, with the fourth Sunday being a Family Service. However, this is under review. We are both members of this church. Jim Collins has been our interim pastor and then lay pastor since January 2001.
*Chapel Lane Fellowship is a Pentecostal church, affiliated with the Assembly of God denomination. The numbers are small averaging about 10 a week. They now meet in a room at the local guildhall and hope to use the church premises for a Furniture Restoration Charity called RESTORE. Minister: Rev. John Iliffe.
*Foss Street Chapel is a small brethren fellowship made up of mostly two families. They have a real heart for the Lord and outreach in the town. The two elders of the church lead them: Robert Perkins and Ian Holden. When The Well was up and running, it was held here on Friday nights at Foss Street Chapel.
*Flavel Church is a combined United Methodist and United Reformed church. They are traditional in their form of worship. Most of the people attending are older. They have few children attending their church but up until Sept 2002 had allowed us to hold the Tuesday evening club in their church hall. Their minister is Rev. Chris Searle.
*St. Saviours, St. Clements and St. Petrox are the three Anglican churches
in town. Children come to St. Clements church and there is a growing number
of children attending St. Saviours. They are comparative to the Lutheran
style of worship in the states.
Vicar: Rev Simon Wright.
