The Well

"Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst."
- Jesus, John 4.13

The Well Coffee Bar is held on a Friday night at the Brethren Church in town, Foss St. Chapel. It is held from 8-10pm and is manned by Mitch, another adult, and the youth group, TQ6. The Well meets the needs of our town's teens and youth by providing them with a safe, warm place to go, free coffee, and the friendship of Christian young people.

The Well

Dartmouth has very little structured activity to meet the needs of these teens. So with nothing to do on a Friday night, they hang out in the Royal Avenue Gardens with their friends drinking, smoking and oftentimes getting themselves into trouble. Some of these children are as young as 11. Mitch and the teens have given assistance a few times in the breaking up of fights and one time even getting a child to the hospital who had had too much to drink.

This coffee bar serves two vital purposes. One, to provide a positive alternative to a Friday night with nothing to do but hang out. Second, it gives the Christian teens an opportunity for outreach amongst their peers.

For many months, the Well continued to grow stronger than ever with more and more teens coming in and staying for the evening. However, many unfortunate incidents have taken place causing bad feelings to develop with the neighbour across the road. The 'last straw' was a Friday in December when one of the teens threw a bottle through his shop window at about 10.05. In order to re-evaluate the situation and keep on good terms with this neighbour, the Well has been closed indefinitely.

The Well had a good ministry until November 2001, when it closed. It has been prayerfully decided not to restart.
