Digging for Buried Treasure
13 August - 3 September 2000
Whilst the numbers were low, the spirits and enthusiasm were high for this four week mini-holiday Bible club at the Dartmouth Baptist Church. We took the 'Buried Treasure and Pirates' theme as our way to teach the children how precious God's Word is and to show them the treasures within it.
The Bible is the treasure. The buried treasures are the promises within it for each of us as individuals. We taught the four steps to digging for buried treasure, which were Pray, Read, Think, Pray and Obey. Or........ PIRATES PUSH OFF!!!!......... an easily remembered acronym.
The Pirates are always there, ready and waiting to steal your treasure. These few especially - Private Put It Off, who tells you to go eat breakfast first or watch TV first, THEN read your Bible; and Sir Sinful, who tries to get you to think of doing the wrong thing so as to take your attention away from the Bible reading; and Captain I Can't, who wants you to think there's no way you can possibly understand what you are reading; and last there is Admiral Unbelief, who wants you to doubt what you are reading. Tie up the Pirates!
Every week there was a treasure hunt, prizes, theme song, drama, games, memory verse rap, crafts, and on the last day there was a quiz and a treasure lunch that all the children were invited to stay for.
It was an enjoyable four weeks of fun and learning that the children aren't soon to forget.
